5 Google Analytics Tips to Explore in 2025
Let’s take a look at the top 5 GA4 tips that can contribute to smarter and faster reporting.
Use annotations
GA4 now supports annotations on line graphs across overview and detailed reports, as well as in the Advertising section. You can add them directly in GA4 or via the Admin API.
Annotations help you document key events, like campaign launches, site changes, or outages that might impact your data trends and give vital context to spikes or dips
What’s more, keeping a clear annotation history makes collaboration across teams easier and much more efficient.
Build funnels
Funnel exploration lets you visualize the exact steps users take to complete a task, whether it’s a purchase, signup, or any other goal, and quickly assess drop-off points.
Use funnel exploration to track both macro conversions (e.g., purchases) and micro conversions (e.g., newsletter signups).
Bonus tip: funnel exploration is the only type of exploration that can be added to the Library and included in your main reports collection.
Apply comparisons
Every GA4 report includes a “Compare” feature (top-right of the UI or ‘Add comparison +’ button).
You can use pre-created comparisons or create your own and apply up to four comparisons at once to analyze how different segments behave side by side.
This is especially useful for quick, ad hoc insights, like evaluating mobile vs. desktop traffic or comparing performance across campaigns, without leaving the standard UI or altering the base report.
Create custom insights
Analytics Intelligence in GA4 uses machine learning and rule-based triggers to help you monitor and respond to key changes in your data.
Custom insights are especially powerful. You can define specific conditions (like a sudden traffic spike or conversion drop), and GA4 will notify you when they occur. Each property supports up to 50 custom insights, and you can even set up email alerts.
Custom insights are one of the easiest ways to stay ahead of unexpected shifts.
Optimize overview reports
In GA4, creating summary cards and customizing overview reports helps to surface the most important insights at a glance, saving time and improving decision-making.
You can create summary cards by editing a report in the Library, selecting key charts or metrics, and choosing “Add to summary card”.
To tailor an overview report, click “Edit overview report” from the Library to add, remove, or rearrange cards, aligning the report with your business goals. This helps you build a clean high-impact view of the data that matters most, which is ideal for daily monitoring or sharing with non-analyst teammates.
